Improving the quality of public education in Puerto Rico must be our top priority if we wish to reduce poverty, stimulate economic growth and improve our quality of life. This is the fundamental purpose of Sapientis, and we are developing a diverse and informed network of change agents who exercise leadership to improve public education. We must connect and engage all sectors, and not rest until every child in Puerto Rico has access to a high quality public education system that develops students’ abilities, nurtures their talents and prepares them to compete on a global level.
Since its founding in 2002, Sapientis has developed programs that face the realities of our public education system. It is the only non-profit organization in Puerto Rico that uses the adaptive leadership model developed at Harvard University to run programs in schools and communities. This model has been implemented over the past 20 years in approximately 80 countries. Adaptive leadership is the art of helping a group or organization face its most critical challenge and then mobilizing resources, human and financial, to generate progress.
To build our diverse and informed network, achieve educational improvements at a local level, and deepen our understanding of the challenges facing schools and communities, Sapientis runs leadership programs in schools and communities for school directors, students, teachers, parents, community members, corporate volunteers and people who want to make a difference. Each program area develops measures of success and evaluates efforts to ensure outcomes and continuous improvement as an organization. Our four programs seek to generate change at different levels and help us recruit individuals into the network.
