Students should have a voice and play a fundamental role when it comes to improving their schools. Youth Leadership instills in them the passion, skills, and team work needed to improve their academic community.
The program develops leadership skills of 100 of intermediate and high school students so that they can have a positive impact on their schools. This program is currently implemented at Ramón Power y Giralt Secondary School and República del Perú Middle School, which serve the Luis Llorens Torres Housing complex, as well as in Albert Einsten Secondary School located in Santurce.
Some of the most significant results of the program during 2007 are:
Ten of the participants are actively working in their school leadership groups.
Representing participants of the program were the only students in Puerto Rico that presented a proposal during the federal hearings of the Department of Education. They proposed to improve the design and implementation of the Pruebas Puertorriqueñas de Aprovechamiento Académico (state mandated assessment).
