Program participants indicated that the program’s efforts have helped to create a sense of pride and union among parents in the school community and has given a sense of belonging and value to the contributions they make to the schools.

Schools on the Move
Through this program, strategies and initiatives have been developed to reflect parents’ commitment to their children’s education and to explore new teaching strategies.
• A group of active mothers in the Luis Llorens Torres community participated in a program initiative to demonstrate the importance of the education of the children in Llorens.

• The mothers collaborated in the design of a shirt with a message that reflects their commitment to their children’s education. The shirt read: “I am a proud parent of a school in Luis Llorens Torres…my children’s education is important to me”

• 200 shirts were delivered to mothers and fathers who volunteer in public schools and to participants in the Parents Assemblies that were held at the beginning of the 2009-2010 academic year. In addition, the Luis Llorens Torres and Luis Rodríguez Cabrero Schools discussed the different roles that fathers, mothers and tutors have or can have in the school community to contribute to the progress of the school.

• On the other side, Sapientis is supporting the Luis Llorens Torres elementary school in the exploration of new learning practices that have been proven to be effective, particularly in the use of Montessori teaching methods.

• The school is taking into consideration the academic necessities of its students, the culture of the community and the expectations of the Department of Education to determine the best course of action.

• Sapientis is providing financial support, strategy development and a data gathering process to evaluate the pilot program. Through these roles, Sapientis is having a positive impact in the school’s activities and possibly a transformative impact on the teaching that is offered to students.
