The diversity of our 2008 and 2009 fellows has made an important contribution to our goals, as they bring a real context to the network and demonstrate an outstanding commitment and dedication to education and to their students.
Front-Line Educators
The school year began with a new group of fellows that join the program. This group, dedicated to improving the quality of education not only in their schools but also in Puerto Rico, is comprised of teachers, school principals and support staff from different points of the Island.
• The 2009 fellows had the opportunity to participate in the summer Leadership Institute. This experience exposed them to a challenging environment that stimulated them to transfer what they learned to practice, using the classroom as a space to exercise leadership in order to mobilize a group.

• After completing the Institute, the fellows began the process of diagnosing their schools or classrooms to develop an action plan that would allow them to carry out focused interventions to improve the academic achievement of their students and to change the environment in their schools.

• In June, the 2008 fellows participated in a leadership training with the goal of strengthening their command of the adaptive leadership model, while learning new tools to diagnose problems.

• During the follow-up training, the 2008 fellows began to define the purpose of their group and generate a diagnosis of the system. This diagnosis contributed to the work that was carried out in sessions of the Legislative University, an advocacy training offered during the summer.

• The program is working on strategies that will have an impact at the school and systemic levels.
